The need

To project manage the $4M greenfields development of the Darwin Squash Centre from funding, construction through to operation.

Project overview

In 2010 the Darwin Squash Centre was identified for redevelopment by the landowner. I took on a key role to develop the business case for the development of the new centre on land within the Marrara Sports Precinct.

The NT Government provided Squash NT with a $4M grant to construct a world class, 12-court facility. I took on the role of lead Project Manager and liaising with the NT Government. I engaged a Construction Project Manager and led the tender process and subsequent construction project alongside the Construction Project Manager.

Towards the end of the construction phase I commenced the business start up plan for the Centre. This included redeveloping the governance structure of Squash in the NT to suit the changing environment, liaising with key stakeholders and leading the staff recruitment strategy for the Centre.

I continued to be involved in the running of the sport and the centre for the next 12 months, leading further strategic, operational and governance projects within the sport.

I continue to be actively involved with Squash in the Northern Territory and Australia, sitting on the Squash NT Board and on the Squash Australia Participation Working Group.

The client and my role

Acting as the lead Project Manager for the construction and business development of the Darwin Squash Centre.
